Fixation Balansa clover is a newer cover crop that is finding its way on many operations. Its unique top growth along with the nice tap root it produces makes Fixation and option worth looking at. Fixation is considered to be the largest producer of nitrogen in the clover category.
Fixation is capable of surviving flooding as well as tempatures well below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. As with most legumes fall growth is slow but once dormancy is breaking in the spring its vines will grow over 3 feet in height and 14 feet in length. Fixation boosts a very nice taproot making it an excellent choice if rooting below the top few inches is desired. Fixation is also not a host for soybean cyst nematodes.
It is important to pay attention to planting depth with fixation, 1/4” is the maximum allowable depth. Depths greater than 1/4” inch will present establishment reductions.
