Cover Crop Information

Wheat is a good cover crop that can also double as a cash crop. Like other cereals, it has excellent erosion control, nutrient uptake, and residue production for surface cover. Wheat isn’t as aggressive as other cereals when it comes to nitrogen uptake in the fall, but does take up some. In the spring we won’t see as rapid of growth like cereal rye, triticale, or barely, thus making it a more manageable crop when wanting to plant a cash crop into it.
